For Merrill I thought it would be fitting to put her in kind of a nervous, alliance rookie role much like Brooks from the Citadel DLC (and by Brooks I mean the persona Maya was putting on before we found out she was a double crossing beeyatch).
very cute. But I see the dalish having more in common with the drell. Maybe she could have been trained as some kind of cultural keeper of her people on Kaje. You could even play around with the tattoos as scale patterns. Just throwing that out there if it sparks your imagination
I don't want to question your decision here, but I wouldn't have given her a gun. She's a mage, so I think it would be more fitting to have an omni tool. I don't think biotics would suit the rest of the picture, and I think Merril behaves more like a nervous tech-nerd than a super awesome biotic.
This is some more beautiful, high-quality artwork from you, but.....it's way too non-descriptive. I mean there is absolutely Nothing in the pic that I can pick out and say, "Yeah, that's Merrill" This pic could be of any Alliance soldier that you see walking aimlessly in the background, since any of them have as much of Merill's "look" or "feel" as this one. I sincerely apologize for the harsh-sounding words I've written, since I don't wish to hurt your feelings, but I believe that being frank and honest about a piece of art is very important. Maybe if she was an alien, to switch her "elveness" to a Mass Effect analogue...maybe an Asari Ardat-Yakshi (analogue for her Blood-Mage characteristic in DA) who is actually a good person, like Falere and Rila...Or something like that, I dunno. But there's got to be a better translation than this. Again, this is beautiful artwork, but I just don't think that the idea of giving Dragon Age characters a Mass Effect flavor is represented too well in this one particular picture, when it is compared to all of the other great ones you've done in this series.
Her personality is exactly the same as Brooks who she's modeled after. If David Gaider is reblogging this picture and describing it as "perfect" then I think you're missing the point. Just because I chose to model her look more on her personality than her powers doesn't mean it's a failure, only a different approach than what you envisioned.
Hm...Merrill's highly learned, being the Keeper's First, so I can see her having tech affinity, as well...making Merrill a Sentinel in training?
Tech Armor and different ammo types (cryo, incendiary, disruptor, warp) to represent the rock armor and various elemental spells, with her being able to Warp on top of that.
On the downside, as a fresh rookie the standard Alliance gene mods all soldiers get haven't had time to really do their work, and she's not a big girl naturally, either; she's much weaker physically than most, and would have a hard time wielding anything larger than a pistol or SMG.
