Just something to cheer me up about having sad ME3 feels. Citadel DLC was amazing though, best few hours I've ever had while playing these games.

‘When you’re cute and fluffy and never ignore me for calibrations, Garrus, then I’ll care about you that much.’

‘Hey, Shepard—I’m cute and fluffy, right?’

‘Not right now, Kaidan. I’m in the middle of some hamster relations.’

It’s kind of a weird thing, Kaidan admits, but when the Normandy lands down and they still haven’t heard from the rest of the galaxy—in the peace of the long night, under the darkest, clearest sky he’s ever seen—he sits on the edge of Shepard’s bed with his hands between his knees and watches the hamster run in circles. He checks on the water. Feeds him. Listens to him squeak and thinks about the small things, and how hamsters can’t tell anybody that you were weeping. Husk heads can’t, either.

It’s the little things.

‘Got somebody who’s been asking after you,’ Kaidan says from the doorway, holding the travel cage behind his back. ‘At least, I think that’s what he was asking. You up on your hamster these days, Shepard?’

Shepard laughs in place, in the hospital bed. Loud enough to cover the sound of the monitors bleeping.

‘Liked him so much all this time ‘cause he reminded me of myself,’ Shepard says. ‘Round and round. Never did get tired, either.’

Kaidan sets the cage down. The hamster keeps running. He kisses the one spot on Shepard’s cheek that isn’t bandaged. Somehow, the wheel’s still turning.
