Just finished it, it may have been shorter than I expected but damn did I love it. it definitely healed the bitterness I've been feeling towards the ending these past few months and the scene with Shepard and Kaidan finally saying to each other "I love you" ...wow, I was in tears. I even liked talking to the catalyst and finding out more about his motivations. Major props to them for listening to the fans and giving us this new content.
My one gripe with it is that they still left the Shepard breath scene as a cliffhanger. I guess they wanted the player to imagine what happens to him and while I'm ok with doing that I'd rather start imagining the future after seeing Shepard found/rescued by the crew or whoever. I think you can pull off a happy moment and still have it feel like things were sacrificed in order to get there (this keeps it from being cheesy), like with the curing of the genophage for instance when the Krogan had new hope but we lost Mordin. The Mass effect journey was full of loss so I feel they could have cut Shepard a break and it still would have had the bittersweet element they were trying to push.
Overall though it changed the feeling of the endings from that of despair to hope. It really saved the series for me and I'm so happy about that.
Found a link to the Kaidan Shepard scene:

...and I whole heartedly agree with you on the over-all feel of the game now with the added EC.
Not a "sugar and rainbows" kind of happy ending nor one where everyone you ever cared for dies. It's war and some people die, and depending on choices and actions some friends can die and some will, like Ash or Kaidan, but than scenes like the one you linked and a small but certain confirmation that Shepard survives, at least in some cases, is what gives players hope, and hope is what I've felt through it all and it's the theme that stood out most in the entire series.
Props to Bioware for ending this properly. and than you for this journal and link
Why do you think so?
